Ridin the rails with Dr. Phil

At first glance, I thought this was a marketing ploy and I couldn’t decide if it was strategic or desperate. But then, I re-read the last paragraph saying you have to apply to be on the show.  Boo, Dr. Phil. You’re defeating the purpose of taking your show to the streets if it’s all going to be preplanned. Can’t you just make your set look like a train?

“Dear Amanda,

Are you looking for advice on everyday problems you and your loved ones face? Are you looking to add a little entertainment to an upcoming trip from New York to Philadelphia? If so, look no further…

In honor of the launch of season 8, Dr. Phil McGraw, host of syndicated daily talk show, “The Dr. Phil Show” is taking to the streets (and the rails!) meeting viewers where they are, offering solutions to their problems – big and small.

On September 9, 2009, “The Dr. Phil Show” will be traveling aboard the Amtrak Acela Express® train from New York City to Philadelphia, and then returning to New York City on the same day. Dr. Phil will be speaking with Amtrak® customers about everyday problems.

If you have a question for Dr. Phil and are interested in appearing on the show, please register by September 8, 2009 for consideration. Please make sure you are available to take the Acela Express either from New York City to Philadelphia or Philadelphia to New York on Wednesday, September 9. If you are selected, your roundtrip train ride will be free.”
