Paging Dr. Gupta…

CNN’s medical correspondent (the guy who was almost the Obama surgeon general) reports about his experience contracting swine flu while reporting from Afghanistan.

“I am not someone who gets sick, really ever. And this was the sickest I have ever been,” he writes.

“There wasn’t much the doctors could really do for me… We also got IV fluids, given our inability to keep anything down. Within a couple days, I felt a lot better, and a few days after that – I was back to normal. It was a lot like… the flu – with a different name…for most people, it will simply mean a few miserable days, hopefully spent in your home – and not in a war zone.”

All of the reports have been going through one ear and out the other (largely because I’m skeptical that it’s being blown up — ok, maybe by the media — and it’s not that much worse than the flu). I’ve never gotten a flu shot before, but maybe it would be a good idea to get one. I’m going in and out of the schools via school board meetings and events. Been carrying my antibacterial lotion, but kids are gross. Maybe it won’t cut it.
